Get off the Grid step-by-step – and say goodbye to load shedding, power outages and outrageous electricity costs
The Eskom debacle would be laughable if its consequences were not so dire for every South African home and business. Recent load shedding developments at Eskom have once again delivered a complete snub to millions of South Africans who are paying the costs of the state capture project which has diverted billions of taxpayers’ rands – your money – into corrupt, private pockets.
Even with expert and focused intervention from government and a proven turnaround strategy, the damage and debt are so deep and endemic, it is going to take many years to turn the ship around. Every South African electricity user and taxpayer will be footing the bill to try and save Eskom from a fatal collapse.
Eskom is already challenging five Nersa electricity tariff decisions in three separate court cases. If Eskom succeeds in its bid, electricity prices will rise in April 2020 and in April 2021 by 16% instead of by the 8.1% increase this year and the 5.22% increase next year that was initially approved by Nersa.
This does not even begin to address the fact that in 2008 and 2009, tariffs increased by 27.5% and 31.3%, respectively. In the following tariff period, Nersa approved three consecutive tariff increases of about 25% a year. Thereafter the increases were supposed to be linked to inflation. This has never happened and in the end corruption at Eskom trumped all else! Everything has spiralled out of control – not only the costs you’re forced to cough up for, but the dangerously precarious state of Eskom’s infrastructure which is at a the point of collapse. The unprecedented stage 6 load shedding of December is going to be walk in the park compared with where we are now headed.
Your electricity costs – when you have electricity – are going to increase exponentially every year for the foreseeable future given the fact that the debt Eskom is servicing is rocketing towards R500billion, and increasing by R60bn every year! By 2021 – guess who will be paying to keep Eskom afloat? Throw in the increasing number of extended blackouts due to cable thefts, plant breakdowns and lack of infrastructural maintenance and you start realising that the security of electricity supply to your home and business is in a very precarious position.
You do not need to be held hostage. You can take back control and ensure the security of your electricity supply, your productivity and the safety of your home and business with reliable, renewable solar power from One Energy.
